The Washington Technology Industry Association’s advocacy and government affairs activities are geared toward fulfilling our mission of helping technology entrepreneurs succeed. The WTIA works with elected policymakers, federal and state agencies, educational institutions, economic development agencies, chambers of commerce, business and civic organizations across the state and beyond to create, promote and sustain a supportive and positive business and economic climate and to reduce and eliminate obstacles for technology entrepreneurs.
The Washington Technology Industry Association has had enormous success on behalf of its members in shaping public policy that is favorable to the technology industry. From securing tax incentives for research and development to increasing the numbers of math and science graduates, the WTIA has been a forceful voice in Olympia and elsewhere getting results for our members.
At the core of the Washington Technology Industry Association’s advocacy and government affairs activities is a simple premise: support public policies that help the technology industry in Washington state grow and oppose those that hurt the tech industry’s interests.
Policy Priorities
A favorable business climate for the technology industry. This means advocating on business issues, such as taxes, employment law, regulating the use of technology, regulating business practices or other areas that affect how a technology business can operate. This includes economic development and trade policies and legislation.
Improving the state’s intellectual capital. This means advocating for improvements in education, from K-12 math standards to degree granting capacity in the states colleges and universities to workforce training. This also includes promoting greater use of technology in schools.
Building and maintaining critical infrastructure. This means advocating for a robust and ubiquitous broadband infrastructure, wired and wireless. It also covers things like a modern and updated electricity grid and improved transportation infrastructure.
